Tony,
I usually replace my strings the night before the gig,(the third I replace before every third gig). I tune them up to pitch and bend them slightly with my fingers a few times and then retune. This gives the strings time to settle in and helps minimize tuning problems and breakage. I cannot remember the last time I broke a third string on a job....Hope you have a great New Year and say hey to the band for me please. They are a great bunch and I really miss seeing and working with them!

There is a little burr where the wrap ends. You can feel it with your finger tip.Aim it away from the changer finger when you change strings. This burr is what scares up the changerfinger in the first place. Also I run a pencil on the finger before I put the string on to reduce friction.I do this on all my strings and I think it helps with tuning problems and string breakage. The softer the pencil the better.I do this on my strats and tele also.I have never had to sand my changer fingers. ls

Tony,
Try a heavier string on the 10th as well. It will help with the breakage and you'll get a richer, fuller tone. Two gauges heavier won't hurt at all.

One thing I finally started doing is getting out of the habit of pushing pedal B everytime I push pedal A,(and vise versa). I notice a lot of guys push the A and B pedals as though they were one.

"IF"...the pegs could be installed lower on the changer,or the number of wraps on the strings could be shortened, maybe that would help???

I use white "Scotchbrite" that I got from an auto supply to polish the top of the changers when I replace strings, followed be Mothers, or semichrome, also a spot of oil.
