I hadn't heard of this development. It's interesting to note how the whole Win10 thing is affecting users, as well as how assertive Microsoft thinks it can become vis a vis the consumer base.

And it's reassuring that when something like this occurs, there are people out there willing to step up and intervene effectively and proactively. This guy's pretty serious; from his web page: "Finally, there is a new Clear Windows Update Cache feature, which is kind of a nuclear option for dealing with Windows Update problems." I like his style.

I haven't personally investigated the above application as I've so far been able to avoid the Win 10 upgrade issue, but it might be useful for those of you who are being forced.

Here's more info from the developer:

I am now using GWX Control Panel and can vouch for it. It nullified Microsoft's efforts to force Windows 10 on my W7 computer. Just make sure you get the very latest version and check for updates each time something seems to have changed. This may be a cat and mouse game with us vs them.

Note; this is a stand alone executable. There is nothing installed. You need admin credentials to run the program. It offers check boxes and buttons to choose options and reveals what Get W10 components are or aren't installed on a PC.
