Equator Monitor

Post by Daryl Thisdelle »

John how did you like you Equator Monitors. What series did you get. I got the Q 12's and love them. The stereo field is huge and so real sounding. I also us the Adam S3A Monitors and they are top drawer also. I like to have two different pairs so I can go back and forth to listen how it all turned out.. High 5 on the Equators.

I just bought a pair of Neumann KH310s. I think they'll do the job nicely. Not cheap, but quality seldom is.

in my work rig we are running KRK Vxt6's in nears, mids (Rokit10's) and sub (12sho). They are fantastic speakers to mix on and fairly inexpensive.
However;
Over the Xmas break, I took some mixes home to play with. My home rig has NS10ms through a Hafler amp for nears.
The thing that surprised me, was that the NS10s pointed out the holes in my mix immediately... I grew up with NS10s and learned to mix on "horrortones" so it may be that I just "know" these monitors... God knows, they aint great speakers by any stretch of the imagination but they do work...Clearmountain was onto something way back then.
Bottom line is that I am presently trying to sniff out a pair for work... both Hafler and Yamaha are not easy to source locally.

In the meantime; the KRKs sound pretty darn good... for an inexpensive speaker..I've added a more VXT6s to the rig for 5.1 mixes in the last month.
Too much equipment....I think I need help.

Daryl,

We are liking the Equators quite a bit--I just built a new room and we are still feeling out the control room, but they go really well with the NS10's, and stuff seems to be translating really well.

PS--the NS10's really come to life when you put some serious power behind them...I see lots of people power them with 50 watt a side amps and they just kind of lay there. I run mine off modded Yamaha P2200 amps at 250 watts a side and they just spring to life. Of course, with that kinda of power just me sure not to make any patching mistakes cause you can take out the tweeters pretty quick :)...I am also using the Isoacoustics speaker isolators and they really tighten up the image and bass response a lot...
