Steel crazy after all these years.

$100 reward for info leading to the purchase of a fender D8 white, yellow, or butterscotch.

Am I the only one who becomes irritated by Stars who just stand up there and pretend to play.
Earnest Tubb used a special felt pick so that he would be inaudible.

What about the guys who "think" they are stars but don't have a clue. Talk the B.S., dress like a hero, but deliver nothing. I backed a guy this weekend at an outdoor festival who spread the bull mighty thick, talked about tour busses, big upcoming jobs, (found out later this crap was in his MIND) clothes,CD's, jackets, etc. Running his mouth on stage and jacking around like he was playing lead guitar. The REALITY of it all was sad. He was playing a flat top thru a power amp and speaker that was as big as my small car. (there were six flat tops on stage in stands that the guys would swap out now and then) Loud as hell, out of tune, and rarely could play the right chords in the right place. Could not get thru a song without screwing up the words. This ruined many of the songs because he played so dang loud, and were often louder than the band. Totally bombed the sound with his antics. His partner was a little better, but same thing. Playing real loud but chord progression was atrocious. We had a steel player with us who is a great picker. He is an accomplished musician and likes to use a lot of chord work and voicing, but no hope. Most of the time we could not even hear each other, but have been playing so long that our "toss it back and forth" was pretty flawless. During break, folks in the crowd would tell me how good the band sounded, but those two up front were....well. The upside was that the pay was pretty good and the food was great. I hate to play like this, it is NOT enjoyable, and I did not leave with "job well done" feeling. I worked this same festival last year and we had a GREAT front man and singer. Folks at the grounds even told us THIS year how much they liked the band last year and were really looking forward to us. However, the two had pushed out the singer from last year (didnt even have the nads to call him) and he found out second hand. I dont believe I will be working for these two again.....I dont need the money, the headache, or the embarrassment.

Brooks and Dunn

Post by Bill Bassett »

About 15 years ago we were at Lake Tahoe and saw that B&D were at Ceasars Palace. It was great fun but I couldn't help laugh to see Kix Brooks running around with a Les Paul around his neck while all the hot lead licks were being generated by a stationary picker off to the left out of the spotlights. That and the fact that we were the only ones there not wearing flaming western wear.

Usually it's a blessing that they only pretend to play rather than actually try to play! :\

The lead guitar picker for Brooks & Dunn at the time was Charlie Crowe
