I spent a year trying to figure out the best angles on the Steelgitr - having to lay over the top neck of the guitsteel looked really tough so Dad's tilt neck adapted easily but getting the upper neck to play well with the bottom neck was the challenge.
The biggest compliment I ever got was the fact that three of the Steelgitrs built were used on stage the DAY the player recieved it - works that well that it just fits you.
I've got one on the bench I hope to finish this year.
That's exactly what I meant by combining a Melobar Skreemr. In fact, since the body of the Skreemr is just plastic foam in a PVC cover, and can be unscrewed from the working guitar, the conversion would be extremely easy.
I'm not sure the Proform (foam with cover pictured in the earlier post) body would work Alan, it takes a pretty custom cut out on the body. I also cut out half the body weight on the back and contoured it to fit your body then put anti-slip material so it will stay put with a Web strap to get it all working. [/img]
You can tell by this shot it's very mobile and light to move on the stage with.
I found the pics of the bass case I re-fit for my guit-steel. I built a foam cutter out of some pvc and 12 volt battery then cut foam insulation to fit. I worked out better then I expected.
Dave I might try that, great idea. That thing fits like a glove in there. Love the guitsteel, I like how you stepped down the edges on the guitar. Is that an old fender lap?
I bought a the two outside necks of a tripple that had been hacked up. The body was filled with bondo where it was routed for pedal steel parts. I still have the other neck but its was in worse shape. The neck I ended up using needed a lot of work but it matched the body in width. It's so much fun to play that its easy to overlook the extra weight. I play it on my lap but am interested in the stand idea. Let us know if you end up using one.
Absolutely Alan; mounting the neck alone to a stretched body is basically what the Steelgitr is.
The blue one I think you're talking about Matt has a real unique paint job...they want a lot of money for that one, about double what they paid for it.
I hope to build a few with Mexico Fenders on the upper neck for around $1,100 - the keyboard gig bag or hard case will fit them.
