TTT means "to the top" and means the same thing as "bump" (which some claim as an acronym for "bringing up my post".
They both mean
"waaah!! I don't want my thread forgotten!"
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

Wasn't there a big to do against pedals when they came out?
Wasn't there a big to do about electric guitars when they came out.

There's still a lot of good music being recorded all over the place..I like some of the new country and as far as steel guitar goes,,there is quite a bit of steel in some of it, and some darn good playing too..I don't like all of the older country and I don't like a lot of the new,,but that's life...
I have always said that that most everything in this life either changes or comes to an end...

It has always been about money and always will be...I'm not too crazy about the way some of them dress either,, but that's their choice, and I'm not the judge...People just don't dress up the way they used to,,not even to go to Church these days..It's just the times we are living in...One thing about it,,I can listen to any kind of music I want to,,whenever I want to...We have a choice....Regards,,,Carson

Ben Godard wrote:I agree that country music sucks for the most part today. There are a few that are OK.

I've stated in the past that country music isn't just music. It is way of living. Its how you talk, how you dress, how you carry yourself. It's about family and the simple things that matter. It's about the life and times of a hardworkin man trying to make a living and trying to get to heaven.

I actually despise most of the music that is coming out today and I'm not old so don't tell me to get with the times. I'm 38 years old and well adapted to the times but I still know the difference between real country and the stuff coming out today.

Just look at how the musicians dress compared to in the 80's and 90's. Look at Jason Aldean and his f.<?'! earings. Oh yeah, those earing sure scream country don't they. I think there has been a trend that the industry today thinks country has to be a cool bad ass image and is one big cool party. Well thats all well and good. All the greats like Haggard and Jones and Hank SR and JR have definately partied their tail off....but they were still true to their country roots.

Its not just the singers and musicians either. It the cooporate level too. The country music executives promote what makes the most money and that happens to be centered around listeners between the ages of 14 to 32 which is the party crowd. They are the ones who are buying most of the music. It's just a shame that the young generation of today don't appreciate traditional country music.

Another thing, what happened to CMT? Has anyone seen the latest awards shows. It's just sickening. CMT is just another MTV. And also what happened to TNN. I miss the Opry and Nashville Now and other programs.

I know I'll get toasted for making certain comments but I'm just telling it like it is. Anyway, thank God for tapes,CD's and now MP3 players. That my lifeline
Ben,you have hit upon something I think very significant...Country music's roots are rural and Southern;the people who supported country music all worked with their hands and their backs and still do today.Might not be out on the farm or the cattle drive anymore, but it sure isn't in an office making up stock derivatives based on what are (quaintly) called "liar loans".I doubt if Hank Snow's or Porter Wagoner's Nudie suits ever made the cover of Gentleman's Quarterly, but I'm pretty sure neither Hank nor Porter nor any of their fans lost any sleep over it.
I think every so often mainstream pop culture rediscovers its roots and decides to make a little money from it.Hence "new country".Is it the Carter Family or Bob Wills? No,and no.But I like it a lot better than any number of the alternatives.I'd like it even more if there was a venue on every corner where you could play it live on Friday and Saturday night.

I did a little research about the latest albums of three "traditional" country performers and how they did in the charts:

Porter Wagoner- Wagonmaster, #63

Merle Haggard- I am what I am, #77

Bobby Bare- The Moon Was Blue, no chart entry

I want to know if somebody who is reading this actually bought one of these albums?

I play Steel in a new top 40's country band, same band for 10 years.Having fun and enjoying myself. Before that I played with different bands.I played the traditional music for about thirty years. The musicians and singers I worked with years ago accepted my playing then, now they ignore me because I am playing the music they don't listen to or like.My playing has actually improved over the years, but they seem to shun me now.At times when I have been depressed with my playing, my band members just laugh it off and tell me the old musicians are jealous because I have a job--I can still play "The Steel Guitar Rag". :P

Tho he doesn't remember it, I remember playing with Joe 50 years ago when Harbor Lights was the big song.

I have heard his band and they are terrific. Some folks might call them R'N'R to a degree, but they are pure country to me.

I think a lot of us don't mind the music. It's the "identity theft" that bugs us. It's easier for the people selling the stuff to attach themselves to a brand that was already established (country music) than to present it with a new label. Look at it this way: Suppose you go out to your shed out back and whip up a bunch of peanut butter. You'd find it much easier to get it on the shelves at Kroger, Piggly-Wiggly, etc. if you put a Peter Pan label on it. Now, Kraft foods or whoever makes Peter Pan would have your hide for that, but we don't have that recourse.

I think the biggest diffrence is years ago guys lived what they played. Today that is no longer the case. I will say it seems Taylor Swift seems to be the exception. Not that I like her music but atleast she writes from the heart and the high school life she has lived.

One thing for sure, you can't please all the people who run Country Music as a business unless their hands are full of your money. But, for sure there are still a few real Country people out there who do it for the love of music. Til you can weed out your neighborhood by who controls the what gets played for chart topper,it ain't gonna happen. When I hear them radio stations saying we are New Country or Young Country just to please the rockca Country fans,I get real happy. keep me alive with my Young Country Music Publishing Company and Label. So please, let them cry on this top who ever your are that wants to change it.See you in Las Vegas for the ACM Awards in April. Uncle Leo. PS; Thanks to all you wonderful people out there who are D J's and play us big little neighborhood peoples C Ds. ;-)

Someone mentioned Justin Trevino as an artist to listen to, when you feel the need for someone still doing it traditional. Here's Justin with his pal Jake Hooker kicking it off. Not sure on this song, but Dicky Overby works a lot with Justin.

One should no forget the many genres Country has today and had in the yesterdays. I doesn't neccesarily mean that if you like one or many styles of a certain kind of music, that you like the others too.
Example: Southern Rock, which included certain elements of country music, I was not he biggest fan of that style, but I liked the Marshall Tucker band and Grinderswitch
Wen you look at Merle Haggard and Charlie Rich, chances maybe that you like them both, but more likely in my opinion, will be that you prefer one over the other, for various reasons, if you stretch this further one may say I only like his earlier or later stuff, the possibilietis are endless...
Same applies to contemporary artists.
I have a problem with lumping everything together and generalising it. In Country or any other genre or cross- genre of music.
