Most of the you tube videos are from sat. nite. Rock and roll woman was definitely better that nite than sunday when I seen them. If Richey is wearing a black shirt it was saturday and a plaid shirt was sunday. Still a great show. Really Messina was in the band a short time. Before Last Time Around was done the break up had already begun.

As Larry said, Jim Messina wasn't in the Buffalo Springfield until the band was just about to break up. He recorded on the last album as a studio player (I believe he was a recording engineer at the session. He played guitar, too, because Neil Young was a no-show at one session date, due to his reliability issues). I don't think Jim Messina ever toured with Buffalo Springfield. Jim Messina was, however, one of the founders (along with Richie Furay) of Poco. And he has played in a recent 'reunion' concert of the original Poco band.Jim Cohen wrote:Why on earth they didn't include Messina... what's up with that?
Keep on pickin'!

Jim Messina toured with the Buffalo from Jan 1968 to the final concert at the Long Beach Sports Arena, May 5th 1968. Bruce Palmer played on most of the Last Time Around album. From "For What It's Worth" the book by John Einarson with Richie Furay: "Though his face and name are both omitted from the sleeve, Bruce appears on several tracks, including 'On the Way Home,' 'It's So Hard to Wait,' 'Pretty Girl Why,' 'Uno Mundo,' 'Merry-Go-Round,' and 'Questions'" [page 260]. Richard Davis played bass on "Kind Woman", Gary Marker played bass on "I Am a Child" and Steve Stills played bass on "Special Care"

They will be doing 6 shows in California right before Bonnaroo, and then plan on a fair number of shows in the fall...just spent the day mixing with Richie on his daughter's project today and hearing about some of the details....pretty exciting...

John, did you get this information from Richie Furay? I can't find anything on the internet about dates beyond Bonnaroo.
I couldn't go to the Bridge School Benefit where they played last October, and you posted about two other California dates - Northern California I hope!
Plus, I want to hear along with acoustic oriented stuff that they played at the Bridge School deal some full on electric Springfield!

John,
Tell Richie to keep up the good work. I just listened to his live CD (that you did) this past weekend and think it's great. I assume the recording you are doing is for Jesse? She sounds great with his band and would love to hear about what she is doing. What style is it and is there going to be any steel on it.
Thanks for any comments you can make.

Her stuff is very cool...we used the same band we use on Richie's records in Nashville...Dan Dugmore plays steel, along with a lot of guitars and dobro...Chris Leuzinger on guitars, Michael Rhodes on bass, Pete Wasner on piano, Dennis Holt on drums and Hank Singer on fiddle...she sounds great and they are trying to see what the options are about releasing it....a couple of the tunes are sorta modern country, some are more country rock...Richie wrote two, her bandmates wrote a couple, one by Jack Sundrud from Poco and one Bonnie Raitt cover so far....

That sounds great, what a band behind her. Please keep us posted on any deals for a release. It's great that Richie's friends have been supportive of her endeavors.
Man, You have one of the best jobs around, enjoy it!
