After my wife and I allowed ourselves to get sucked into watching this thing over the past few years, I was telling her last night after the results were announced that it's time to move on and don't get involved next season (particularly since the "villain" Simon Cowell is leaving).
The last straw was when the vote came in last night, and Lee beat out Crystal, I said "that's it - this is ridiculous!"
Lee Dewyze (spelling?). Seems like a nice fella and all, but please, no freakin' way. He appeared to be very surprised that he actually won - had a real "deer-in-the-headlights" look after the announcement.

I agree about Leigh. He had those girls voting......
He will definitely need pitch correction. Crystal will have a deal !
I'm sad about Simon leaving. He a Paula were a team. For me the show wasn't as good, due to her leaving.
Next season they'll come to Nashville. It's about time!!
I'll have to check it out.

I didn't watch this season other than one time a few weeks back, one performance by 3 singers. One was a Tiny Tim impersonator I thought when he sang with a Mando...
Well, today, I watched the news and heard who won at least 3 or 4 times, I still can't tell you the name of the winner...Lee something or other..
I'm just sayin'...

There are many more reasons the show wasn't as good this year besides just Paula leaving. In general, and although there were exceptions, I don't think the finalists were nearly as good as in previous years. I also don't think 52-year-old judge Ellen DeGeneres relates all that well to the show's demographic and music. I don't understand being all that sad about Cowell's leaving, since basically, he's blowing off the aging AI to start his own show, (The X Factor,) and in the process, making himself even richer.I'm sad about Simon leaving. mark...we felt the same way. embarrassing enough as it is to watch in the first place, it ended up totally ridiculous again.
the guy who won: what's his name?
what did he sing?
where's his personality?
crystal:
the best actual truly original artist/singer who's been on there. she'll hopefully get a good little career and is probably lucky she didn't win.
hopefully i'll never watch again....but i probably will.
oh yeah...it made me realize that a large percentage of the population don't hear music ...
and even more amazing---how can anyone actually read sarah palin's name without laughing? ..it's scary...what's happening??

So true, but don't forget the VOTE-FOR-THE-WORST website that encourages members to keep the best from winning. http://www.votefortheworst.com/blog/David Mason wrote:Now that every teenage white girl in America has a cellphone programmable for repeat dialing, we can pretty much count on the Safe White Rocker Guy winning, each and every year - he's won the past three, after all.
I liked Crystal best, and, my second was Big Mike. I have no doubts about Crystal getting a record deal - and when she does, I'll be first in line to buy!
Also, I really enjoyed Ellen on the show, and hope she stays for next season.
Rick, are Clint Eastwood and Clint Black brothers??????? Just curious

I would say that, of the few time I've watched the show, Crystal was possibly one of the most talented and furthest from a karaoke singer they ever had on.
The fact that she made it to the final show was surprising to me. She has talent, but she looked very uncomfortable doing all the lame stuff they have the cast do. She didn't dance, she didn't jump around, she barley made eye contact with the crowd or camera, she didn't feel right singing without her guitar, but when she just stood their with her guitar and sang, she blew 'em all away.
The kid that won looked quite a bit more comfortable on stage, and I guess you don't have to sing good or in tune to be an Idol, just have to look good. For what that show is about he was probably the right one for it.
I've never bought any albums by anyone who has been on this show, but I'm for sure going to get whatever album Crystal releases. She's more of my idea of an American Idol.

As the father of a teenage girl, I can tell you that American Idol has not been a big thing with teenage girls for a couple of years. My daughter got bored with it a few seasons ago.Now that every teenage white girl in America has a cellphone programmable for repeat dialing
I think what drives American Idol votes are middle age women.

Well Bill, if you are basing the opinion of the show in the minds of teenage girls by one young lady living in New York, I would say that wouldn't make for a very accurate poll.Bill McCloskey wrote:As the father of a teenage girl, I can tell you that American Idol has not been a big thing with teenage girls for a couple of years. For that matter, I recall my two girls, now aged 20 and 21, took an interest in the first season when Kelly Clarkson won, but I don't think they have watched the show much since. And that was what, eight years ago? That would have made them 12 and 13 at the time.
I think you may be on to to something though that the Idol vote could be driven by middle age women. A guy at work told me that his wife "stuffs" the ballot box with the repeat voting method for her favorite. Though she voted for Crystal, so it would seem not all the "Cougar' element went for the dude.

Based on my daughter and all her friends.
But actually, they have lost a lot of the teen audience according to ratings agencies like Nielsen, I believe, as well.
You only need to look at the "winners" each year and their "fan clubs" that show up on the Today show. It is like an AARP meeting.
I'll add: when something is really "in" for teenage girls, you know it: I'll say one word: Twilight, and leave it at that.
