We do...any we support them 100%. I also support many of the singers and other musicians. The simple fact is that a lot of this music is just plain weak and uninteresting. We can say we don't like it and still support our people.

I think many of us are just fed up with the Industry's complete lack of direction and definition and more and more are saying so. That doesn't mean we want to throw the baby out with the bath water. We just want it to get better.

ohh heck no! im being silly. it is hard to address an idea like "Broccoli sux and anyone who eats it is a stupid doodoo head" I dont like broccoli but i dont blame the broccoli or people who eat it. and it seems that alot of the complaints about today can be said about the "good ol days" "Dag nabbit!!! ol jimmy xxxxxxx could write a great song with just 3 kords! he didnt need any of them fangled suspendered kords to hold his songs up! and joe xxxxx didnt wear no raggy jeans and stockin cap jumpin round the stage like a hoolimagin, he just stood there and sang and let the rhinestone jacket do the entertainin. and his band had those nifty blue auctioneer hats n neckerchiffs!"

This sounds like a rerun of the year that Olivia Newton John and the other John (Denver); won female and male vocalists of that year. One could say it is almost word for word identical;

Regrets Paul

Living in this "geographically challenged" area of northwestern Pa., I was about to give up on all of it. The local country station induces "ear fatigue" after all of 5 minutes.

Then I got XM-12 and XM-13.

Then I made it to the ISGC. In 4 days I saw more of the kind of country music I like than I ever dreamed existed.

Maybe someday I can even quit the Prozac :D

I'm sure they've worked as hard for it...as... our heros of the past years.
Oh, puleeze - gimme a break. She's only 19 years old.
 Maybe I'm prejudiced or stupid, but I figure a "Vocalist Of The Year" ought to be a pretty good singer.

But then again, what do I know? :\

Taylor Swift can't sing. At least Mutt Lang picked someone who could sing before he decided to buy into the CMT marketing machine. Missy Swift does a great hair flip though. Somebody paid.

Yeah, but no one ever considered him seriously for male vocalist of the year either.

My point, Kevin, is that being a popular vocalist has very little to do with your ability to sing. The best singers in the world are amateurs. Vocalists are professional entertainers. Singing ability (or lack of it) has very little to do with whether a vocalist is successful or not, or whether he or she deserves the accolades of that success. It's a popularity contest, not a singing contest.

Understood. I'll agree with you to a point. I just know how the executive decisions work. She's not Gretchen Wilson and never will be. Gretchen could flick her like a booger off stage with one good note.

Is that supposed to make it okay for us? This is like saying Lee Harvey Oswald was a good marksman. I think Paul and Brent are good players, but I don't care for the music they're playing. Brent is the one that said it's rock and roll and not country. I'd like to hear those talented guys play some real country. Oh, and I'm sure they're nice guys, friendly, helpful, etc..... and all those things everyone likes to talk about. I try hard to be that too,....... we all should. This has nothing to do with them personally, it's simply taste in music. :)

Seriously... In your opinion, does the fact that Paul Franklin or Brent Mason is playing on a record, make it a great record? These guys are both among the best at what they do, but sadly, they do not have the ability to turn stones into diamonds.
A bad song is a bad song, and a bad singer is a bad singer, no matter who's playing fills in the background!

Bad music is subjective. Actually, all music is subjective to the listener. What you may not like, someone else loves. Music is still an art form and It's easy to be a critic.
