I had the opportunity to talk briefly with Donna in St. Louis last year. She is now an RN, working in a Nashville hospital as I recall. She loves her new career and misses playing steel but her work schedule just doesn't leave her time right now.Tommy R. Butler

Man I sure miss Donna Hammitt. Remember meeting her at the Opry around 1997. We were introduced by Jeff Newman.
No offense to Eddie Lang but she sure looked good sittn on stage backing Bill Anderson.
Whatever she is doing these days I hope she is happy. I miss watching her play.

Rick:
When Blanche was playing with Ann Jones, she was known as Blanche Emerson. She is now operating out of Tucson as Blanche White. I don't know if she ever used a third name. She was with Ann Jones for 27 years.
I found her email address in 2 minutes using Google, but don't want to post it here.
You can find it yourself by entering Blanche Emerson into Google.
Here are a couple of other pictures of her I just found through Google after I saw your post. She is still playing a triple neck Rickenbacker.

Blanche Emerson White
Hi! My name is Blanche White(nee Emerson) I played with Ann Jones and her Western Sweethearts from 1953 until 1979. We became world travelers and ended up entertaining for the military throughout the U.S and overseas for most of the 26 years. I am still picking but not on a steady basis right now. Thank you for the kind words and remembering us after this many years. I still play my Rickenbacker steel and stand up and still manage to dance while playing as I did for so many years on the road. I have been playing a show put on yearly by La Verne Davis who worked with Wade Raye during the late 1950's. Very talented and knows how to put on an entertaining show. I am glad I happened on to this web site, it's good to hear what you all are doing.![Image]()

This goes back a few years (decades) to the late 40's and 50's. Abbie Neal and her Ranch Girls.
http://www.hillbilly-music.com/artists/ ... p?id=12754
Abbie played fiddle and non-pedal steel in the Pittsburgh, PA...Wheeling WVa areas. She is the first person that I ever heard play steel. I have loved it ever since. I had the pleasure of meeting her in the late 50's at a personal appearance in my home town.

Maggie Bjorklund
I've seen her mentioned in other threads on the Forum - I'm surprised her name hasn't been mentioned here yet. Maggie Bjorklund is a great player. http://maggiebjorklund.com/

Blanche,
What a treat to see your post. I don't know if you remember me but I was the skinny kid that hung out
with another of your many fans from the Ann Jones years, Buddy Fite.I lived in Vancouver and Buddy and I used to come hear you ladies play at the Old Wagon
Wheel Park in Camas Washington. Years later I ran into all of you at a NCO Club in England where I was
serving in the Air Force there. Its nice to see you and all the other ladies get the recognition that you
all so deserve.

Blanche:
Are you the Blanche White seated in front of Bob White, between Bob Foster and Don Warden in the famous Fender Room photo taken at FanFest in 1958? I have it hanging on my wall in my steel guitar room.
Others in the photo include Buddy Emmons, Jimmy Day, Jerry Byrd, Leon McAuliffe, Don Helms, Sonny Burnett, Speedy West, Johnny Sibert, and Linda Riley.

Re: Women PSG Players
Jake, good for you helping encourage a new generation of players. I couldn't help but notice that Katy has come up with an answer to the question, "What shoes do you wear when playing?" That I don't think anyone mentioned when that topic was discussed here a while back.Jake Hoffman wrote:My daughter Katy Hoffman, age 24, on C6th. Passing it on.
It would be great to see more of these lady Steelers on the forum.

I haven't had the pleasure of hearing the other players and those are great photos. Just want to say that, Sara Jory, Joan Cox and Donna Hammett won't take a back seat to anyone. All three, just awesome.

I couldn't be happier that this thread reached out and brought in someone like you, Blanche. Please continue to post about everything you'd care to, I know I'm interested in hearing what you have to share about your continuing life with the steel.
And guys, how come steel guitar attracts the prettiest girl players?! Boy, are we lucky!
