When I was a teenager Johnny Winter was my guitar hero. In 1975 I traveled roughly 800 miles to see him in concert at the Ottawa Civic Center. It was quite a trip...set out by train in an awful snowstorm and the train got lodged in snowdrifts just east of Quebec City. It ended up not budging for 25 hours. An engine with a plow was dispatched to rescue us and it derailed and jammed things up even worse. Altogether what should have been a 17 hour train ride took just under 48 hours. We got in Montreal and I was lucky enough to catch a flight from there to Ottawa, arriving with only a couple of hours to spare before showtime. It was worth it. Johnny put on a fantastic show and in those days Rick Derringer was with the band which was an added bonus. Those were the days...I had sort of forgotten about that oddessy.
