My favorite bar for dobro or acoustic guitar is a tapered bar I bought years ago. I have a couple as the chroming tends to pit after 25 years or so. Image

I play lap steel and recently bought a cheapie dobro. As I was warned, the first thing I noticed was the lack of sustain. Using a Lap Dawg bar felt very comfortable for being able to lift the bar for pull-offs, but this bar definitely had less sustain than my Ernie Ball bullet bar. I've also been comparing the wooden handled shubb (G5?) with the bullet - again slightly less sustain. Of course, no one else in the world would notice...
