I'd never met Mike till Saturday. I know his playing intimately. I've been dissecting his licks for over 2 years trying to do for Daryle what Mike already did for Daryle!!!! Super nice guy, just like Daryle said you were Mike!!! It was a pleasure, hope we can meet again and spend some time together. Whip

I hope you have the Franklin pedal on your guitar. Mike was all over that!
Bob, it was great to see you this past weekend as well...
regarding Mike, yes , all over the 4th pedal changes. We have seen many threads pro and con, one only has to listen to Mike to get the "PRO" part..
We had a chance to talk to Mark, Mike and Joanie for a bit over in the Peavey room. It's hard to say "so long" to down to earth folks like the three of them...
Mark is Mikes brother on Bass and vocals and he was certainly as entertaining as the Music..at one point he said it was HIM playing Steel on Daryle Singletary's MIRRORS, he said the producers didn't want Mike to feel bad so they never told him that Mark played Steel on the track.
he was just to funny...Mike and Joanie told us that they do a monthly gig downtown Nville, they are going to send me some detail so we can all go visit..and get this, Forum member and PRO Steeler Steve Hinson we were told plays Tele with them on that gig..
I'll have to second everything everyone said about Mike. I had met him several years ago in Nashville when he played on a session for my son-in-laws gospel group. Kelly Back was playing lead guitar on the session and he and Mike done some twin stuff that just knocked me out! He got up into Hugheyland that day too just like he did in St. Louis. He visited with me after the session like I was a lifelong friend. What a credit to the Steel Guitar community. Mike, it was great to see you again.

Musicians have to play.....They really have no choice

Thanks, Tony, and thanks to you and Bonnie for letting me "hang out" with you guys. It's kinda strange to be by yourself 2000 miles from home!
bob
Well Bob, travel another 1000 miles east and hang out with us at our house..open invite....
I gotta warn ya though, we normally DO NOT stay up late till midnight like we did at the convention...so you may be jamming or watching TV with the "cats" after 9 pm..
It seems that Bob was either right in front of us or right next to us during the whole show... I do know that when HOT stuff was going on we kinda looked at each other with that "good grief" look...
I was talking to Nick Reed and he commented that he spends more time just hanging out with us "regular" folks at the convention than he does in the big room.
How about that !
This Forum, along with the Convention makes for a pretty good day I would say...
I met Mike when he was with Mel Street and I was with Bobby Helms. Mike was 18 at the time and he still looks like a kid. He was a great player then and even better now.
Dare I say "I Never Go Around Mirrors" is/will be the next "Look At Us"?
That solo kills me!!!
And hearing it in person, up close in the Peavey room...well..that's as good as it gets!
In the solo (Mirrors), where it goes to the 5- (five minor)... that is an awesome paert of the solo...
Interesting use of the B & C pedal and 7th string...in addition to some skillful speed picking and CLEAN pick blocking.
This guy plays stuff ..I do not hear anyone else doing... maybe Paul Franklin ... but he would be it. Mike is fresh and has a skill at expressing his musical ideas in a way that many will take more notice of as time goes on.
I will have to add that Mike and Joanie are two of my favorite people. I got to meet them a few years back and there arent any nicer folks that i have met anywhere. Way to go Mike and keep up the great work. Jim
We first saw Mike in the Peavey room with Mark on bass and Greg on guitar - also an "unknown" drummer they pulled from the crowd.
THAT alone was worth the drive from Atlanta!! And you can bet that we were in the hall early to get good seats for their Sunday performance.
We bought Joanie's gospel CD - awesome project!!
Also got Mike's 2-cut CD, and look forward to getting his new release.
Sounds like we could start the Steel Guitar Forum Fan Club for Mike, Mark and Joanie!!

Can any-one provide us with a clip of Mike playing this great instrument; or can you give me an address where one can purchase a CD by this individual? Thanks..Bernie
