do they have to be 100% Steel instrumental or can the melody lines /solo's be shared with another Instruments, like a guitar, maybe a 50/50 deal ? Even a Horn for the Jazz guys ....

The song should feature the steel guitar.

Look, I don't want to set down a lot of "rules" here. The idea is that submission should be original, and that it should showcase your steel playing. Is that so hard to understand? It's not like something's going to be "rejected" because it has a fiddle break.

b0b replied YES to Chris's question:
"Does the definition of steel guitar extend to dobros or other forms of resonator guitars?"
I believe the definition of "Steel Guitar" is one played with a slide bar, usually made of steel.

I'm probably stating the obvious, but a resonator guitar setup and played as a standard guitar wouldn't qualify.

The "let common sense prevail" gist of b0b's last post says it all.

I'm looking forward to hearing some non-PSG submissions on this album.

#34 - Patrick Sylvest - "Out of the Loop"

As if in answer to the questions above, this is an acoustic tune with solos on dobro, mandolin, guitar and banjo! The head is Dobro, of course.

I've never understood the problem with banjos. However, in this instance it's irrelevant. We want a solo played on the steel guitar, whether it's a pedal steel, non-pedal steel or resonator. You can put whatever instruments you like in the background, as long as it's an original composition played on the steel guitar.

There's no judgment as to how good you are: we just want to create a compilation which represents the Steel Guitar Forum.

I know of several submissions that are in transit. Mail from Europe seems to be really slow right now.

I've been processing submissions as they come in, normalizing levels, converting to 320kbps MP3 and adding to the liner notes file (which is now 20 pages long!). I burned a test CD a couple of days ago and it sounds just great. You folks are gonna be so happy you're on this disk!!

Since there's no rhyme or reason to the ordering anyway, I put it on "shuffle play". It's the next best thing to SteelRadio.com. Great for long drives if your car stereo supports MP3.

"At least there's no accordion or bagpipes (YET)" -Basil
Seriously, I was going to submit a Reso Tune, but your comment prompted me to opt for an alternate tune.

I won't elaborate, only sayin it's an ambient tune with me on PSG, and no accordion accompaniment.

It was mailed today. Thanks Baz! :)

Now who has one with accordion?

PLEASE don't bring up those instruments in a SERIOUS music discussion..
Although I do believe that Kay Das has successfully amalgamated HIS playing 'Style' along with some bagpipes, or maybe it was just a bagpipe tune (if there is such a thing ?)

You'll have to wait for the disc, unless you can hear the screams from Cloverdale! :)

No one was kilt in the production.

I think it has something to do with gravity. When I get up out of my comfy armchair gravity pulls me back in. If I could design a PSG which could be played from a reclining position, with a nice soft cushion, and a blanket to keep me warm, I would probably be a lot more productive.

That having been said, I intend to get moving with this today. :D
