Alan, you can hear Michaels arrangement from the link a couple posts above.edit (on the previous page towards the bottom now)
After hearing Michael's track Im really looking forward to hearing the variety of peoples work. I may submit something, havent really decided. I tend to employ steel as 'the other voice' in original compositions. While steel is the lead instrument and does the "singing", theres always a backing guitar, drums, bass etc and like any good singer, the steel isnt constantly singing. I'm not sure these qualify as steel guitar instrumentals? I take it from bOb's earlier BIAB suggestion that they might?

Thanks, b0b. Now for another forty or so entries.b0b wrote:. . . Michael's submission was mailed before our discussion about public domain songs clarified the issue. Besides, it sounds original to me. If he hadn't titled it "Shady Grove", I'm not sure I would have recognized it. It's a very original arrangement. The song is in.

While your going through your CDs, let me know if you've found my Xmas CD from a while back.b0b wrote:I need to find my open copy, John. My personal CD library is not organized well - I have CDs at various places at home and in the office. I'm also searching for Jack Stoner's "Grande Tour" CD, and a newly released Doug Jayne CD that I played on (different project)...
Thanks,

I have the very original tune (out of a number of guitar-tunes I composed some 35 years ago), and know exactly what it sounds like on PSG since I have used it as a practicing piece for years. But, since I'm on vacation in Spring Hill, Florida over the winter and don't have my favorite PSG with me - and no recording equipment either, I can't enter anything for at least 3 months.
I think it is an excellent project, so at least I can help bump it

Those who are planning to submit a tune but haven't done so yet might consider my Procrastination Workshop...

I myself have every intention of submitting a composition in the fullness of time.

I think we can do a "Video Showcase" CD at a later date if this one is successful. Collect the entire set!

The mail must be slow. No submissions in the past two days, except for Stu's update.
I added a link to the form in the Forum header code for higher visibility. Maybe that will get people moving on this project.
A friend of mine told me this morning, "I don't have a home studio and I don't like using Band-In-A-Box for backup." No problem, guy. Just get together with a rhythm guitarist and plug a microphone into your computer. You can do this in your living room. It doesn't have to be a highly polished studio production. We just want to hear you play your steel guitar.
Michael Maddex's submission was solo steel guitar! No overdubs or anything fancy. I predict that many people will count it among their favorites. So don't let your lack of recording equipment or engineering skills stop you from doing this.

An artist alias? Why?
People will want to match your playing with your posts on the forum. That's actually a good thing. They see your avatar picture, read your posts and hear your music. We'll all learn a lot about each other from this CD. I guarantee it.
The song for Raybob's submission has been selected:
#15 - Raybob Bowman - "TV Blues"
