Well, you know the old saying: "Don't s**t where ya eat". Ya gotta give it to those Canadians for calling him out. I guess he never played Hamilton. There is too much gravy in that town. I have the opposite reaction to Canadian clubs versus Los Angeles clubs, except I would say a lot of L.A. audiences are lots of dressing with no meat. He reminds me in the interview of Nigel from Spinal Tap when he has his little tantrum in the dressing room because the food was not correct. Maybe he can do a cameo on Joaquin Phoenix's upcoming (?) record.

Hey Joey,
Hamilton is a great town. My wife grew-up there, so I've spent some time there, although her family now lives in Dundas.

I love that Canadian Gravy. They don't call Hamilton "The Hammer" for nothin'!

UPDATE:

Well... one of my Saturday morning students told me he went to the Willie show Friday night at the Univ. of Mass. And later one of my afternoon students told me she went too. So I got two independent reports... and I heard basically the same comments from each of them, which is interesting. They both said that The Boxmasters got a lukewarm reception and not much applause throughout their set. No boos, but not much enthusiasm. Both also told me that band did not sound very good, and there were often four or five electric guitars on stage, too much clusterf#@^, and the vocals could not be heard, which was fine because Bbob did not sing very well. One student described them as a mediocre bar band that was out of their league. Those were their words, not mine.

They also said that Ray Price and band sounded great. He had a string section and his band was well balanced. They said Willie was good too. And that’s the news from here. Film at 11:00.

What goes around, comes around. All dues will be paid in full by the doo date.

Not to hijack, but Doug, will you be playing with the Lonesome Brothers next Friday (Apr.24), as opening act for Junior Brown - at the Iron Horse?
(sent you an earlier email)

I plan on being there.

When will bands learn that more than one electrical guitar on stage at a time is too much. Next you'll have some wanna-be cover band butchering "Jessica" with twin guitars instead of twin PSGs like the record. Prolly a buncha pot-heads too!

Where have I heard that band before? That's right just about every opening act I've ever seen.

Hi Chip, No, sorry, I don't play with them anymore. They play as a trio now. I did open for Junior Brown with them twice before, at the Ironhorse and at Pearl St. Junior puts on a great show... you're gonna love it!
I'll be playing at the Winchester Cafe in Portland CT that night (4/24) with Queen of Hearts. Tomorrow night (Sunday) I'm at the ITAM in Pittsfield MA, but I'm playing guitar, not steel. thanks, Doug

A lot of people say bad things about Billy Bob, but if they knew that deep down inside, he's just a little (okay, a LOT) whacko, they'd reconsider and say bad things about him.

I just think of him as a sort of cross between Sean Penn, Max Headroom, and Robert Mitchum. :D

With luck, he'll probably go down in history as one on of the guys that went way down.

Humped Backed Geeks

Post by Joey Ace »

I read that he was on Jimmy Kimmel's show the other night. He said he was surprised the interview turned into such a big deal.

He said,"At least it kept the hump backed geeks busy for a few days".

The funniest thing about this free publicity stunt by Silly Bob is that it has been blown up into an international incident.

GET OVER IT.

I saw him on the Bonnie Hunt show and he did a real good interview 15 minutes into the show, and was dressed casual, but he didn't come back and sing till the last of the show, (kept the mute button down most of the time) and he and three of the Boxmasters came out dressed in nice suits and IMO he did a great job singing. He didn't play drums, but the other three guys had six-string guitars and did real well. It was completely opposite from the interview in Canada, and let me add I've never met a Canadian that I didn't like. FYI when I switched over from Comcast to Verizon, I was on my computer for about three days talking to people in India & other countries, but the the guy that solved the problem was a Canadian. Mr Gates, you get what you pay for.

On the longshot chance that this even deserves any further discussion, here's yet another view of how he sees his relationship to the band:http://www.thesmokinggun.com/backstaget ... ybob1.html

I find it somewhat odd that the contract specifies that this is a smoking tour, yet nowhere is anything mentioned about ashtrays ....

Canada has no-smoking laws (and so do many states in America). He is not above the law, regardless of the opinion he has of himself and he is not superior to our government(or his).

Does he actually think he can decide which laws he will or won't comply with?

The sad part of it is, until his Canadian fiasco, most of Canada, myself included, had a lot of respect for him, despite the fact that he is pretty much a below-average singer.

So last night I saw an ad for "Q" on CBC TV -- don't know how long it's been running -- clips of the infamous interview figured prominently.

BBT's statement in his rider stating that
"Billy Bob somkes on stage as part of the performance"
is a (sometimes, depending on local law)legal way to allow him to smoke.

Many places that have strict non-smoking laws have exceptions written into the law for performances that include smoking.

This is similar to the by-laws that a Legion might have, disallowing hats being worn, with the exception of performances that they are a part of.
