It's both a floor wax and a dessert topping.

Well said, Bill! I used to explain and try to educate, but I've given up on it!

You violated the prime directive. Thou shalt NOT read Youtube comments. It's crazy-making.
There's a question in there -- 'what's the difference between a steel guitar and a regular guitar?' and someone answered 'a regular guitar has a wood neck, a steel guitar has a metal neck'.
Why did I read that !!??

:) I hear ya, Jon. It's crazy. I get about 50 comments a day on my vids and YT sends them to my Gmail as they come in. I scan through them and answer most of them... even if it's just a Thanks. A few days ago YT sent me my 2020 stats, and it said I responded to 9853 comments in 2020! :whoa:

I was very surprised watching a YouTube video of Tommy White at a country concert, and a member of the audience asked "What is that instrument there?" and pointing to the steel guitar. No doubt this person was a country fan but didn't know what made the noises.

We have all gone through that one.

People who take the time to say "that's great" etc....they do deserve a reply and I'm glad you do that. And I love that you arouse so much response.
But some of the saddest stuff I see on the internet is in the Youtube comments. Gaaa.

A hippie girl in eastern Washington once told me that it looked like I was playing a burial for two salmon. Maybe my tone stank.

Mick, I've heard people say "string guitar", slider, "iron guitar", "table guitar", synthesizer, and a lot of other crazy things. :o

My grand daughter called my lap steel my "portable guitar" and another time, my "flat guitar." She was 8 or 9 at the time.

A person I play with here in Florida joking calls it a “lazy guitar” because “it just lays there on your lap”.

Once, when it was my turn to soundcheck at a gig. The FOH guy said "OK, now the guy with the table"

That reminds me of the time a sound man hung a mic over the strings of my pedal steel guitar! I had to explain to him that it’s not an acoustic instrument. I guess he had no idea what I was playing.

When I saw the Bellamy Brothers, they called it the electric sewing machine for some reason. (Pedal steel)

I was playing a job once with a lap steel that had a MOTS finish. Someone asked me where I got the electric bowling ball.
