Last nite I was surfing the sky with the 10 foot dish when I landed on the C-Band feed of PBS. There was the SoundStage episode of George Jones - 50 Years. Multiple country artists paying tribute to the Possum. Beatiful steel throughout. Camera work includes lots of steel close-ups. Turns out it's an hour of Paul Franklin. Definitely something to have on tape. The chops he played behind Trick Pony were cool too. Look to the TV listings for when it may be playing in your neighborhood & don't miss it.

BTW, it was great to watch Paul's picking hand position and orientation.

I caught the hour of LeaAnn Womack on CMT last nite too, and the steel was definitely missing from her show. What a voice though, nary a flat or sharp on some complex modulation. She can sing!
[This message was edited by Ray Minich on 10 May 2005 at 09:19 AM.]

I caught part of the show on cable last night. Unfortunately, the audio was terrible. What little I could hear was great.

I caught it last night. had to turn the sound up for the music and down from the emcee stuff.
I was so happy that the camera scanned the pedal steel. I was thinking,' hmm, maybe the camera guy is related to the steeler'... I could see the fret markers with the close ups. spider webs? very cool.
anyway, Paul Franklin played beautifully. and louder than I thought the soundman would allow. great.
ol george 's voice is getting weak, but he is still important.
is Kinney bald under hat minster hat?
[This message was edited by Randy Reeves on 10 May 2005 at 08:01 AM.]
