Dear Mary, Sandra, Brenda, Debbie, Tim, DeWitt Jr. and Mike,

what sad news. My thoughts go out to your whole family with much gratitude for all Scotty and you all have done over many years for the steel players and the fans of the instruments, especially us players from overseas. I will never forget the times Scotty came to Europe, how he helped us and encouraged us to progress in our playing. As I was still living in Denmark (my native country) he even included one of my tunes in his book Anthology of Pedal Steel Guitar, and after I moved to Germany he and Mary came and stayed in our home. And all the wonderful conventions in St. Louis! The hospitallity of the Scott family was wonderful and will never be forgotten. The first time I met Scotty was in his music shop in St. Louis in 1974 while on vacation in the United States, and the last time we met was in Dallas in the spring of this year. Thank you, Scotty for being such a great friend and helper.

Nils

R.I.P Scotty and sincere condolences to the family. His legacy is huge and his Mel Bay books on Steel Guitar instruction are without peers.
I was priviledged to interview Scotty one time when he came to Australia - there is a text of it here (on page 9):

My condolences as well to all of the Scott family and his many, many friends in the steel guitar community. My own trips to the International Steel Guitar Convention and Scotty's Music were full of great memories. I wouldn't be the steel player I am today without Scotty's books and instructional materials.

Scotty made it possible for all of us to see, hear and meet the greatest pedal steel guitar players in the world. The ISGC was his creation and he deserves the utmost reverence and respect for that accomplishment, not to mentioned all the players and to be players he helped along the way to thier pedal steel guitar destinys. My condolences to the Scott family. What a legacy your patriarch has give the world.

Sincerely,

Bruce W Heffner

The last time I saw Scotty his health had gone down a lot. Man, todays steel shows started because of his vision of promoting the steel guitar. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and pray God will comfort all the family during this time. I find it odd we lost Scotty and Buddy Emmons in the same year. Those guys are together again having a blast.

So sad to hear of Scotty's passing. I played the convention five or six times Scotty was always niceto me. and such great person as. well as a great musician. and he did so much to help others. the last time I saw Scotty was at the Ernest Tubb midnight Jamboree. 2006 Darrell McCall was playing the record shop that night. and the big E was playing steel that night. Scotty and I talked in the parking lot and he walked in with my wife Carolyn and me. he came all the way from St Louis to see Darrell and Buddy . RIP Scotty our thoughts and prayers are with the Scott family and his many friends and fan's.
