There have been comments about the C1 mike, that it is good for the price. I was thinking of ordering one and I also saw the C3 mike, which is about a $100 more. If that means the C3 is better I'd probably go for that one.

Any thoughts or experiences with the C3 mike?

A couple of weeks ago I was in your position exactly, trying to decide between the two. The price difference was only $75, so I went for the C3.

Apart from the C3 offering three different characteristics as opposed to the C1's cardioid only, there shouldn't be much difference at all. For single instrument/voice home recording a cardioid pattern is really all that's needed, but who knows - sometime the added flexibility may come in handy, so I took the plunge.

BTW, I like it a lot. Sounds good, nicely finished.

If you're referring to the Studio Project mics, the C1 should do fine for most applications.

Omni and figure 8 are cool if you have
a really sweet sounding room.
If not cardiod is the way to go.

Though another nice thing with figure 8 is
2 good singers facing each on either 0 side of the 8
blending onto the same track.

The Tube mics they make are super also.
As good as a U-87 for scads less schekles.
