Jerry Byrd & Stupidity

Post by Ray Montee »

The jerrybyrdfanclub.com site has been bombarded by a faceless, no class, low class,
jerk with more time on his hands than he has brains. The JBFC will be temporarily down for a spell. Sorry about that. Hope you'll continue to check in in order to hear the latest material being played with JB's fine playing thereon.

Is there anyway we can have a necktie party, or a tar and feather on a rail get together. Who ever it is he deserves it. LEE

Details are on the website GUESTBOOK page. If you guys can figure a way to harrass this individual be my guest. We've taken corrective steps all night long and we're still shut down. No way as yet to get the site up and running.

Ray

I'm so sorry to hear that! I can imagine what you are going through, hope the site will be up again soon!

I know I am far away, but if there's anything I can do for you, let me know anytime!

Kind Regards, Walter

This was posted in "Steel Players" but it's not about Jerry Byrd - it's about the web site. I've moved it to the "Steel on the Web" section for that reason.

I can't connect to the site to see the guestbook, but if your jerk has a defined IP, just ban it.

Or boot him and close registration.

Or ban his whole domain.

Hi Ray,
It really stinks that someone's hacked your JB website. Like Charlie says above, there must be some way for you to bar this person's IP or domain. Or something like that. I think... <small>(I know just enough about computers to get me in trouble.)</small> Image
That said, I just checked out "Farewell Blues" on the JBFC home-page, and it sounded fine, so it looks like your site is back up & running...

Ahhh.... I see it now. I gather we're talking about the "Buy Viagra" dufus.

Another way to deal with this is to not allow HTML in your guestbook. Talk to your software vendor about that. Or add the line;

BODY TEXT="#000000" LINK="#ffffff" BGCOLOR="#ffffff"

in the body of that page. It makes the text black, and the backround and links the same color, white.

Tee hee,
Charles

Now I can open it. Shame you have to get rid of the guest book, but understandable.

I was getting some like this so I set my guestbook not to post any new entries, it notifies me that there was a signing, I check it and if it's a legitimate signing and not spam I allow the post. Can't do that with yours, I guess....? Before setting it up for approval before posting, I just deleted the spam messages, most guestbooks allow messages to be deleted pretty easily. <font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Jim Phelps on 28 October 2005 at 04:04 PM.]</p></FONT>

More info:

If you search google for the terms guestbook html deny several links pop up that might interest you. One says to look for the line in the guestbook code that says;

$allow_html = 1

This value is 1 for Yes or 0 (zero) for No.

I can't check your code because it looks like you already deactivated the guestbook. I have a copy of it at work, and will check it Monday if I remember.
