Hello everybody
Just became a member. Played guitar for 40yrs when, last year, I came across a 1937 red Rick. What I now know, thanks to the Forum, as a model 59. I believe tube amps are the way to go, but this lap is so bright
I have to roll the trebel back to 3 or 4.
Is there any way to adjust the PU?
Can it be slanted? ( trebel down, bass up )
Does it harm anything to pull out the PU? The
pot is real scratchy.
any thoughts?

Pull that pickup out ... be careful of the ground (bare copper wire leaving bobbin).

Remove the newspaper/tissue paper they are stuffed with ... you can search thru and probably find the date ...

Replace that with Terry Cloth Towels ... jam them up into the neck and body (use a bent coat hanger) ...

The towels will help smooth out some of the harsh overtones of the hollow steel body.

Leave enough room for the pickup and pot(s) to go back in ...

Replace the old pot(s) ... horseshoe pickups are quite bright ... so if you wanna tame it abit ... 250K pot(s) will help ...

If it has a tone control ... a 250K and a 0.047 mfd cap will do nicely.

And then read Adjusting the Non-Adjustable Ricky Pickup.

A re-magnetization will give you better bass response also ...

There are instructions on how to remove the magnets on my site (same page as above)

Hope that helps ...
