Recording to a CD

Post by Mel Culbreath »

I have a new computer with Windows XP.

I wanted to copy a music file from my hard drive to a CD-R. I went to Windows Explorer, found the file (mp3 format), and successfully copied it to the CD-R using Windows Media Player. Somehow in the process the file was converted to a .cda extension. I was able to play it on my boom-box with no problems.

Happy with my success, I then tried to copy another mp3 music file in the same way, to the same CD-R, but got this message instead:

"The CD in the CD Drive is not blank and cannot be overwritten. Insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW in the drive and then click retry"

Is there some way to copy another song to the same CD-R at this point, or must I make a playlist first and copy all the songs at once?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mel

Uncheck the box that says something like "close session after recording". I think that will let you copy additional tracks.

You can create a multi-session disc but most home and car stereos won't play it. You really need to burn all the songs at one time and finalize (close) the cd.

Things work best when you create a full CD in one session and then close. I prefer using CD Creator 4 by Adaptec, but there are other CD burning programs available that are just as good.
