CD PLayer Problem
Guys, this should be an easy one for you, but tough for me.
My computer has stopped reading by CD player.
When I look at it (D) in My Computer, it says there's no disc there.
My record cd (E on this machine) works fine.
I went in and turned on the Disc Detector, but that didn't change anything for the player.
I did have to use the paper clip routine to get the drive open and the disc out of D.
I skimmed the booklets and even went to the Microsoft page to see if there was a patch for my ME system. As far as they're concerned I'm the first person in the entire world who ever had the problem.
Duhhh!
Thanks, bill

Hi Bill. I've had this problem sometimes when I use a home-made (burned) CD-R. Not all computers will recognize the disc (even the same computer than burned it... go figure!). Do you have the same problem with store-bought, major market CDs? If so, then you'll need someone smarter than me to help ya. Fortunately, there's a lot of guys around here who qualify (not too hard to do!)
Good luck!

Bill,
Usually when things get quirky for no obvious reason, I try to un-install/re-install. Have you tried this with your CD-rom? I'm still on Win98, but ME must have something similar to: Start>Settings>ControlPanel>System>Device Manager(?) 'Remove' the CD-ROM in the D drive, then re-boot. The system should auto-detect the CD-ROM, and re-install it.

Thanks to everybody...problem solved!
Jim...this thing didn't even like my fancy store-bought CD's, things like P. Diddy, Twisted Sister, and other steel-heavy stuff.
By the way..good to visit with you at the Choo Choo Reunion again this year. You put on a great show.
Tommy...that did the trick. I don't guess I knew that those devices would re-install themselves like that. A good trick to know! Thanks.
Mark (and b0b)...this proves again I don't know what I'd do without the Forum. I do more lurking than typing, but I check in everyday, and learn something.
Now...I've got this problem with my other CD, and that sorry mutual fund also. I don't suppose....
