Midi File Help????

Post by Ron Whitworth »

Hello;
I need some help..My computer used to play a midi file when i would have it loaded onto a floppy disc..My wife was trying to play some the other day & apparently 1 would'nt play because it had "no file association" so she assigned it one..It was the wrong one so NONE of my midi files will play now..I have figured out how to edit the file types but i still can't get any of them to play!!!..I need some HELP here..Anyone else been thru this or know what i am talking about..ANY help will be most graciously appreciated!! My THANKS Ron

Hi Ron,

Try this, for a quick fix.

With Windows explorer, browse to a midi file on your hard disk or floppy disk, hold down the shift key, and rightclick on the filename. You should see 'Open with' on the rightclick menu. In the dialog box, type in, or browse to c:\windows\mplayer.exe then click ok.

That should reset the association.

The right way to do it, is to first remove the existing (wrong) association in control panel, then click a file, choose the 'open with' program to reset it. But I think using the shift key will work for you, as it makes explorer put the 'open with' on the right click menu.

Good luck.

Tom
