vga extension

Post by Bruce Wutzke »

When I added a monitor extension cable,
I ended up with a slight shadow. Is there
an extension that is heavily shielded and would cure this problem?

Bruce, you should find out from the monitor's manufacturer what cables might be suitable for a particular unit. A shadow seems like it may be caused by less than optimal current available from the video card to drive the monitor circuits, or possibly a time delay problem.
How long is the extension? What is the monitor? What is your video card?
[This message was edited by Rich Paton on 25 August 2001 at 10:53 AM.]

Rich,
I have 6 foot extension on it. I found a shielded extension advertised as "no blurr".
I'll let you know how it does as soon as it gets here.
Not sure of the monitor brand, but it has a beautiful look when I plug it directly into the tower. With a short cord and my desk set-up, its just not feasible. I've tried changing the refresh rate also. That really can make a difference. I found the best setting and its almost tolerable but not quite there.

Some video output cards drivers or the receivers in some monitors will not work over a certain length. That may be some of your problem.

Ok guys, I got the new cord today and lucked out. It cleared everything up just fine.
Jack, I didn't see you again after they were throwing you out of your room in St Louis. I didn't know if you headed back home or stayed the weekend. Nice to meet you anyway.

Bruce, they gave me a different room (602). When I got down to the desk I overheard them talking that I was the second person they erroneously gave that room to.

We left Sunday morning.

Sorry we didn't cross paths at the convention, but it was nice to meet you and put a face to the name, as I did with several forumites.
