stone age word processer

Post by John Kavanagh »

Does anyone know where I can buy or download a word processing program for Windows 3.1?

All I really want is a slight upgrade to the Write program - a spell check, a word counter, and maybe better tab settings. Or some way to add those things on. I have a low-tech solution called a "dictionary", but it doesn't catch typos.

I don't know if they have exactly what you're looking for, but you might try http://www.tucows.com . They have a lot of downloadable stuff - freeware or shareware usually. Give it a shot.

Check around the flea markets and closeout stores. Someone may have an old copy of WordPerfect laying around that you can probably buy cheap. At one time WordPerfect was THE wordprocessor. It's still around (now owned by Corel) but lost out when Novell bought the company. WordPerfect 6.0 and maybe 7.0 would run in a Win3.1 machine.

Winston, the disks arrived this morning. Thank you very much indeed. I'll send you some blanks and some US stamps to cover your postage first thing tomorrow morning.

Thanks Winston, Steve, and Jack for your postings - it's nice to "meet" people so ready to help out a stranger.
