I replaced the OEM hard drive in my Compaq Presario with a new Western Digital 40GB, 7200RPM model. Wow! what a difference in ambient noise from the original Maxtor drive.
The noise level from the PC with the Maxtor was relatively loud, from the time it was new, so I didn't relate it to being noisy. But, with the new drive the hard drive noise is almost non existant. I have to listen close to make sure anything is running (the cooling fan is quiet).
I had to upgrade as I have several album projects coming up this summer, for other people, and needed more disk space. All of a sudden I'm in the "recording studio" business. I did my own album and I did one for a singer as a favor and now I have others that want to record.
New HD, No noise
