I am have trouble with aol cutting me off ,just about the time I get a post finished, if it is of any length.
Seeing as I am a two finger typist ha ha?
I have found word perfect ,where I can write my post off line .
Will someone give me the direction's on how to transfer this on over to the forum.
I would be ever so thankful.
Am a dummie at this,or should I say Im learning,So what ever, break it down simple for me . once again thanks BJ

change your ph.cords. both of them. the one tat comes from your jack to computer and the one from computer to phone. had problems like yours and that stopped it. those phone cords get weak. bill

I've talked about these problems before. There are many variables that can cause "dropouts", disconnects, slow modem connect speeds, etc.
Possible causes;
1. The resources in the PC.
2. The modem.
3. The interconnect cable between the modem and the phone jack.
4. If it is being routed through a surge protector then that is a potential problem area.
5. The wiring inside your house.
6. The phone jack (RJ11 connector).
7. A phone in the house connected to the same phone line (cordless phones can be a problem).
8. Call waiting (should be disabled while on line).
9. The telephone companies lines.
10. The ISP's modems and internal network.
11. Murphy's law.
There's not one answer for the problem. |

This is probably not an issue of your phone lines or your computer.
AOL will disconnect you after a short period of "inactivity." Sometimes that period seems to be shorter or longer. (I think it depends on the amount of traffic that AOL is experiencing at any particular time.) I have noticed that if I am replying to a post and it takes me longer than 5 to 10 minutes to compose my thoughts, AOL will try to disconnect me. They usually pop up a little dialogue box that asks if you want to remain online. Unfortunately the dialogue box is not accompanied by a beep or alert sound of any kind and is usually hidden by the browser window. So, by the time you see it, it is too late, and you have been cut off. |

Mark, you are so right! My ISP is not aol but they cut my connection off quite often. But they have a dialog box that I can see and I just clik on Yes to re-connect. Works good except if I am downloading, that usually is bad news.
I have some kind of download program that is supposed to pick up wherever it has been interupted , but I am not too sure if it works well or not., any one else have any idea about a program to pickup where your download was stopped by a cut off connection.?...al |

Some ISPs time you out regardless of whether you are active or not. I get timed-out a lot on webtv now. Never used to. |
