My lap steel has a significant hum that stops when I touch the metal parts (strings, bridge) of the guitar. Is this due to a grounding problem? I just got the guitar 2nd hand & have been told that it has a single blade humbucking pickup.

Any suggestions?

Hi,
I had this problem with several steels I built and solved it by soldering a wire from the bridge to ground. Hope that helps.

Where did you attach the wire besides the bridge? I've had some experience with soldering , building lamps from scratch etc.

Mike--you can go to any negative spot in the electronics--the case of a pot, any jumper wire between neg. lugs of the volume or tone pots, or the neg terminal of the jack itself---this would be the sleeve of the jack, not the tip (pos). Before even getting too into it, just try touching a piece of wire from the bridge to any of these common grounds and see if it does the trick.
