Webb 6-14E Amp Owners

Hi There... Just want to see if you could be so kind to list your amp settings so we can compare our different sounds..just list from left to right the number that it is set on.. and when we get to the EQ section just indicate what time on a clock the 0 is set at..and also indicate if the EQ is on or off..I am so mixed on my settings and want to see where others are at.

here are the settings I use basic setup of Tommy White Sen wide open, volume 4-5 highs 2-3 mids 2-3 bas 10 Eq left to right 0-0-0
Minus 2-Minus2

Hey Jim.....I run the sens wide open, vol 5/6, treble 2/3, depending on the room, mids 2/3, bass 5/7. I use an outboard reverb, Lexicon, and keep the EQ in the off position. Too much to fool with, besides, the amp just sounds great without tweaking the EQ. Of course you know I use a Carter single 12. Russ

One thing you'll notice is that if you set
all your EQ nobs to zero (straight up) and then
toggle between EQ on and EQ off...the "on"
position will actually loose a bit of volume.
You almost have to set them all on +3 to
keep the volume the same. In other words,
you can use the EQ to cut certain
frequencies....but they won't do much to boost
any of them.

I set it on 2. Number 1 is a little thin, & the 3rd position boosts the mids quite a bit. But try 'em all...what the heck!!!
See which one you like best.
That's what counts anyhow.

i also set my selector to the middle one most of the time, however, in certain rooms i also use the thin one, but almost never use the one to the far right. the eq is different depending on the situation, but i do use the far right knobs to cut certain frequencies also. i also use this amp for banjo, which i use the left most selector switch, works pretty good.

Presence: 4-5
Treble: 7-8
Mid: 2-3
Bass: 2-3
Reverb: 2-3

Lo: +3

I've used the #3 position all along. But for some reason it sounds overly midrangy and boxy lately to my ears. I think I'll start experimenting with the #2 position.

Turn EQ to Out
Turn Reverb OFF Regulate as needed
Turn Sensitivity all the way up
Turn Volume to 2 or 3 or as desired
Turn Treble, Mid, Bass to 5. Regulate as wanted.

For best results try not using EQ for a few weeks or months.
Learn the main sound of the Webb Amp. Learn your amp good. And the wide range it has with the 3 tone controls then you use the EQ for goodies maybe sometimes when your hearing is bad.

I just read on the forum about the good hints from our good friends wanting new owners and other owners to know that there is others out there that want to help. Thank you all (oh YALL…haha)

When adjusting low frequencies strike low strings
When using the other 3 knobs strike strings accordingly

More hints for selector

# 1 Thinner sound
#2 Fullest sound. Most commonly used.
#3 Very good for fiddle. May make some keyboards sound more like a piano

Hi Larry.. are you running the Mesa Boogie Studio Pre in the Webb when you are using these Webb settings? If so what advantage do you hear using the Studio Pre in front of the Webb. I also have a Studio Pre and I use it only in the studio...I either play a Emmons P/P single coil or LeGreande III...

I you're gonna use some kinda preamp first,
then it's a whole different ballgame.
The settings of that extra preamp
will affect your tone quite a bit.
There are so many tonal variations
in the Webb preamp alone.

Jim I use the Mesa because it has so many options and I can put it right next to me. I play 4 instruments and need quick ways to change the EQ setting etc.

When I run the Webb straight I use the same settings as mentioned above.

I use the recording out jacks from the Mesa into the front end of the Webb. I turn all of the volume knobs on the Mesa to 3, including the overdrive section with the bass toggle switch in. I am pushing the tubes a little but not into distortion. My sound is warmer and bigger when I do NOT use the Mesa, but I need the controls next to me.

I guess I could buid a separate box for the Webb head, I did that for years and years with my Nashville 400's
