I bought a 1500 about a year ago, and have had problems with distortion at low volume, and last night, one channel quit altogether. I'm running a Profex II as the preamp, and pushing two Peavey Black Widow 12s. Anyone have any similar problems, and if so, any remedy suggestion?...Other than sending it back for repair, I mean.

John, are you sure it's the MosValve power amp? Have you checked the interconnect cords between the Profex II and the MosValve 500? Switch the cords between the two channels and see if it stays with that one channel in the Power Amp or if it moves to the opposite channel.

Check the speaker connections on the back of the amp and at the speakers. Also switch sepakers to see if you have a bad speaker/jack or cable. Also check the switch for one channel or two on the back. Operate it several times in case it's gotten dirty.

Basically try to determine, for sure, where the problem is.

The only two things Genz Benz told me to do on this amp, was make sure the speaker load did not go any lower than 4 ohms and to provide plenty of air circulation.

All I've had to do on mine is replace the input level pots (one had a bad spot but since I had it apart I replaced all 4 - input and presence at the recommendation of the Genz Benz tech).

Hi Jack -

Thanks for the reply. I've resolved the problem with the channel by replacing a cord. However, I'm still getting a distortion at low volume. I'm going to lift the Profex II and use a Mesa Boogie Studio Preamp to see if the problem is in the Profex.

I'll keep you posted!

Once again, thanks for your help!

BTW - There's a new amp tech over at Tubeworks - guy by the name of Steve Brooks. He has been VERY helpful and responsive. Good guy. Give him a call - he'll help you out.

You'd be surprised - it gets mixed reactions. Some people just don't have a sense of humor, or are easily offended, I guess.
