What do you think? My tone preference is darker than most, so how about a PF-1 or
PF-2? Anyone familiar with those? Otherwise, I'm leaning toward the darkest Lawrence model, the 910.
Thanks.

Just curious, why don't you like the sound of the ZB pickups. I always thought they were great.

Yes, Richard, original pick-ups that functioned would probably be the best choice. This instrument--rescued from a Fort Worth pawn shop--came with E-66s (with one side of the mounting screw holes broken off.)
For the E neck, there's got to be a better (mellower) option than the E-66. Have you listened to any of those darker pick-ups?

Check the Carter website out. They have a sound comparison of various pickups.

Jeff
A friend of mine has a spare ZB pickup, if you are interested let me know and I will check with him to see if he wants to sell it.
Thanks
Billy

Hey, great Billy. Thanks and please check with him. My only concern is will a pick-up that old be severely microphonic? I've just had to replace the 25 year old models in my push-pull. |

In the early 70's, i put a Jim Murphy model
ZB pickup on a little Fuzzy S-10, and it made
an amazing difference in the sound of the PSG. Only thing i couldn't stand was the cabinet drop. And that pickup emphasized all
aspects of the guitar. Beautiful tone though.
Best of luck in your quest for a pickup.
