Can someone tell me soundwise what the difference is in these two speakers? I have a Peavey amp with Scorpions, and am considering changing to something with more bottom end. Would the Black Widows be an improvement?

Thanks!

The scorpion's are more lead guitar oriented. The 1203 (12") or 1501 (15") BW are designed for steel.

The 1501-4ohm shallow basket Black Widow speaker will definitely provide more low end response.

Mike,

Exactly what is the technical difference between these two speakers...cone, voice coil, magnet weight?

How would the BW compare to EVM's? I've used EVM's before. Highly efficient, great bass response, and ungodly heavy!

Does Peavey make their own speakers, or are they contracted to another firm?

I had a pair of the older (100 Watt RMS) Peavey powered monitors, which had a 12" Scorpion and a Motorola dual-throat CDH piezoelectric horn in each.
I used them with a board for a very capable andclean sounding club PA system, and I also used one with (In This Order)a Valverb, Rane PE15 Parametric EQ, & a Profex II...for Jazz Guitar, plenty, plenty of bottom and more than loud enough. An excellent product IMHO.
