Steel on Grand Ole Opry 12/16/2000

Post by Tim Rowley »

The Opry is coming in clear as a bell on WSM 650 AM here in Northern MI tonight. I'm happy to report that the steel guitars are right up front in the mix! Tommy White is giving it both barrels on both necks and he's played nothing but the honey all night. If that's Donna Hammitt with Bill Anderson, she's also doing a wonderful job. And my personal favorite, Pee Wee Rogers (L.J.D.) is playing that thing like never before. All of these steelers are of course known for their great clear tone, but tonight it's steel tone up the Kazula! Maybe it's just that good old AM tone, but I'm inclined to think that they've got a sound technician at the mixing console who really enjoys the sound of good steel playing. I know that if I was mixing it I wouldn't change a thing, it's really enjoyable. If any of you Opry steelers happen to read this, rest assured you did a wonderful job tonight and the mix did you proud!

TV sound is sure different from radio! On TNN the GOO sound is distorted. Every week it sounds like a guitar amp on 11. I can't tolerate it for more than a couple of minutes.
