I am interested in finding titles and artists who recorded Vietnam War country songs. Not necesarily 'protest' songs, but songs similar to the ones from the Korean war and WWII. Such as 'Dear John' etc.

Dean:
Check out the "Veterans" pages at this site. Maybe sign the lady's guestbook if you don't mind. She runs a great classic country site.

I remember years ago Ernest Tubb recorded a song about VietNam called "Its for god ,country & you mom". It came out just as my brother came home from Nam and I was on my way to Nam.

Just remembered another one. "A Prayer On Your Lips" - Lefty Frizzell. It was the only recitation that ever recall him doing and was on an album titled - "Puttin' On."

That would probably be the "Feel Like I'm fixin' to Die Rag" by Country Joe. More of a protest song, really.

"The Chicago Story" written by Tom T. Hall. I cann't remember the original artist who had the single on it, but it was later included in an album by Bobby Bare.

Herb:
I just recorded "Ballad of the Green Berets for Rose and sent it to her as done by Johnny Paycheck on his 1966 "In Concert" album. Great job on the song and some really great steel by Lloyd Green. Song can be heard at the website above.
Hope any of you fellas that visit her site will sign her guestbook. She is a class lady and has given me permission to use any of her stuff with steel in it on Ricky and I's site, and she has a ton of good ole classic country on-line.

I've got an old Starday Country Music album from the 60's which has a Ray Pillow song titled "Lonesome Vietnam." Interesting tune.
