This older song from the movie of the same name is in heavy rotation at WDUX Classic Country here in central Wisconsin...
nice steel work on this song... really makes it..
anyone know who the steel guitarist is? |

At the time the movie was released I was working at the Foothill Club in the Los Angeles area with Cliff Crofford who was a writer or co-writer of several songs in that movie. The music was usually produced by a west coast guy named Snuff Garrett and several LA musicians had small musician parts in the movie. I'd say the song probably featured either Jay Dee Maness or Al Vescovo or one of the LA guys. I know that Cliff wrote a song which Mel Tillis performed called "Send Me Down to Tucson". On the sound track the LA guys did their thing with Snuff producing but on the track which Mel released as a single it was cut in Nashville with a whole different set of players. In one of the barroom scenes Cliff Crofford is featured as a bass player. He also wrote a monster hit which Walter Brennan recorded called "Old Rivers".
