This may be a little left of treditionel country but lets join our texas buddys in mouring the sudden passing of Doug Sahm.
I'm sure i'm not the only one here with CD's of the Texas Tornado's or the Sir Dougles
Quintet.

I just got an email from a friend in Texas, I loved ol' Doug and the Quintet, the Tornadoes, the whole trip.
Listening to 'Mendocino' will never be quite the same though.

Doug was a wonderful person and one of the few real musical geniuses I've ever met. I spoke with him just a week or two ago and he was planning to play steel on some cuts on Cornell Hurd's next record.
I was literally knocked out of my chair when I heard the news last night. I really thought that he's the kind of guy who'd be picking and grinning into his 90's, he had so much energy.
Texas has a very bad day yesterday, between Doug's passing and the Aggie bonfire tragedy. |

I heard about this at the Broken Spoke last night. On my way to the spoke one of the local radio stations was playing back to back Sir Douglas Quintet. I thought there was something up then. It's kind of ironic that if you hear a couple of songs on the radio by an artist that you like. That ususally means he/she is dead.
Doug was also a great steel player, got some great sounds out of his triple neck National whenever I saw him sit in with Alvin Crow or Cornell Hurd. He was also one of the greatest band leaders. he had a real presence on stage. He will be sorely missed around these parts. |
