I just wanted to say that I spotted a ZB Custom 12 string universal in a local music store: Atomic Music in the College Park area. The finish seemed to be in good condition and it is a very pretty guitar. It was on consignment for around $1600. I am in no way affiliated with this music store; please do not contact with inquiries about this instrument. I just thought I'd give you ZB fans a heads up.

Is that a rarity, Dave? I'm aware of 11 as a common ZB number but I didn't know that 12 was uncommon. I'd be pretty interested if it were local and I could see it.

I've seen Al Perkins play a ZB extended E9 12-string about 15 years ago. But yeah they are kinda rare for some reason.I'd like to know more about the one that's for sale - what color? how many pedals/levers? single frame? devil horn headstock/changer block or the later more generic looking model?

Let me say that I do not know much about ZBs, so I can't be too specific. However, I do know that there are many on the Forum who are interested, so I posted this message.

This particular guitar (single body) had 8 on the floor and about 5-6 knee levers (if memory serves). It had the classic "devil's horn" keyhead+changer and I believe it was a blonde/brown two tone color scheme. I tried to see how it played, but it was obviously not set up properly. Regardless, it was mighty pretty and I've rarely seen pedal steels, let alone ZBs, in local used music stores.

If you have any additional questions, give the guys at Atomic a call: (301)474-5752. They may not know much about steel, but they may be able to answer additional questions. They are usually helpful and will try to answer your questions to their best ability.

Hope this helps.

I am so NOT in the market for a big ticket item right now that I am glad that this is a single body. If it were a double then I just might have to buy it.
Thanks for the initial and follow-up info, Andrew.

Hi Andrew:

Thanks for the info. I'm not aware of any S-12 ZBs... but I could be wrong. I remember a post from not too long ago about an S-12 and it turned out to be a BMI, not a ZB. Same builder and similar design to be sure.

I know there are alot (well, relatively speaking) of S-11s and even a few D-11s and D-11-10s out there, but an S-12 would definitely be a rarity.

More details, any of you out there, on this particular steel guitar?

Greg Jones - any info or enlightenment?

ZBest,
larry

OK folks. I called the music store and they verified that it is a 12 string ZB (they counted the strings over the phone)--and the owner has lowered to price to around $1275, FYI.

Thanks Andrew for the info. Looks like I just
bought the ZB 12str. It is gorgeous two tone.
Atomic sent me 2 pics if any ZB fans would like I will forward them to you. I am a happy
camper.

Congrats, Chuck. I hemmed & hawed long enough to let someone else get me off the hook. No regrets. Enjoy. I'd love to see the pics.

I have the 12str ZB. What a gorgeous piece of
wood. It is a 7&6 with mechanical issues. I will be in contact with Greg about this. The
pick-up is smooth and sounds great.
