I was first introduced to Larry's playing when working at the college radio station K-TXT at Texas Tech in the early 80's by the Jazz guy that was at our station, the big album was by the Crusaders, 'Free as the Wind', which is my all time favorite album by my favorite group.

Hope you can enjoy his awesome playing, I think Larry had a steel players mentality, using a Sho-bud volume pedal, Buddy Emmons did a few songs with him on an earlier Linda Ronstadt album, 'Don't Cry Now' . He commented on it many years ago on the forum about the sessions, which was great

Larry is awesome. His solos on Steely Dan's "Kid Charglamane" and "Don't Take Me Alive" are amazing. So melodic.

Larry sounds so good because, in addition to his incredible rhythmic feel, he often uses superimposed arpeggios instead of scales which creates wider intervals which makes him sound different from most other players who are running various scales. So he's looking at the fretboard in a different way than many.

I first started listening to LC's playing when I got the Sourthern Comfort album. Totally changed my approach to guitar. I was just starting to get an appreciation for jazz and other music that had a bit more finesse that the rock I had been playing up to then. I think I bought everything he released from that point on. Some of my favorites are where he steps outside of the box a little bit. The albums "Last Nite", Renegade Gentleman" and "No Substitutions" are prime examples. I was lucky to see him play live in a small theater setting just as he was getting back to touring after being shot. He could barely speak at that point but man he sure could play. Got to see "Larry and Lee" show a few years later. They were great of course. I remain a big fan.
