My friend David Hayes played bass for Jessie back in the day. He still has a nice old Gretsch hollowbody guitar that Jessie gave him and said he was a great person. David went on to play bass for Van Morrison and still does....

Jesse's been one of my favorites for decades. Soul of a City Boy was hugely influential to me early on. My copy got ripped of in college, so I just went and got another. Still listen to it. Of course, The Youngbloods were seminal, but there is much more to Jesse. RIP.

Being from the Bay Area, I saw the Youngbloods MANY times. Banana always intrigued me. This is a great loss to the music world. Jesse Colin Young had such a great voice

So sorry to find this out. Jesse's been a favorite of mine for many decades. His solo album, 'Soul of a City Boy' is stunning. I especially like his cover of the Robin Remaily (of Holy Modal Rounders fame) song, "Four in the Morning". Here a recent live performance of the song:

My all time favorite song was Sunlight by Jesse. I probably still have it on vinyl. Great singer and band. Sending prayers for friends and family.

His and Jerry Corbitts vocals were so good on their first two Youngbloods records. Elephants Mountain was also great.

Although not Jesse's tune, Grizzly Bear was an early influence on my guitar playing. Solid gone!

A guy in one of my bands played with him out in CA. I had that album too Bill M. Juli, Sunlight, Ridgetop, are the tunes that stick out in my mind. I'm not sure what his creative output was after that. Hopefully he made a decent living. Think of all the younger people who probably never heard the guy. Artists seem to fade away.
