Dale Granstrom

Post by Bob Muller »

I am very sorry to say that Portland's oldest Steel Guitar Player has passed away today. Dale Granstrom was 94 years old and still steel playin'. He told me that he has been playing since before I was born in the 1940s. He was an amazingly talented man who played with so many players and singers throughout his life. He used to come over for our "jams" all the time and he always had interesting stories to tell about the "old days." Here is a photo of him sitting at one of his guitars in our music room.

A fine player on both necks and a true gentleman. Every one always enjoyed seeing and hearing Dale. He had a wealth of steel guitar history and knowledge. His engaging smile and countless stories will be missed.

One of the "good guys" has left us. I have many fine memories of Dale. He played from the heart.
