more devastating news to the steel community... what a sad week it's been with John Steele, Susan Alcorn, and now Jon Light all departing.
I never met Jon in person but we became forum friends early on since we shared more "liberal" interests when it came to the instrument and life in general.
Jon was so giving of his knowledge and wit, he had a seemingly endless supply of both. the forum and the world won't be nearly the same without him.

I really appreciated Jon taking some time to answer some mechanical questions over email with me. I appreciated him sharing his time and knowledge with somebody he never met before.
Thank you Jon.

I met Jon after buying a used uni and deciding to adjust it myself. After collecting the pieces strewn across the floor and my bed (cause where else you gonna start repairing your steel?) I called Jon and high tailed it over to Saugerties. So mellow, so calm, so knowledgeable. Over the years he "suggested" so many things to me that everybody else knew...after asking if I did it from choice. Like did I prefer stringing my steel under the posts for a reason?
My steel would break or fail and I would turn it over and look at it ...and call Jon. Go to Saugerties,
look at his new steel (there was always a new steel that I could never try because I'm 6'3" and Jon...was not.) Try his new amp (there was usually a new amp, in fact I play his TT12 which he owned for maybe two months,) ogle his pedals (a wall full plus a constantly changing board.) Chat for a while, play a bit (never judgemntal,) drop off the steel. Come back in two days, get the low down (including video!) Give him $30 (when I would have gladly given triple that) and off you go.
Jon was humble and a fine player, but he wasn't afraid to call bull**** in private. I called him Sensei because he knew so much more than I, but wouldn't teach you...only show you.
RIP, brother.

I just read this post. I'm saddened to hear of Jon's passing. I never had the privilege of meeting Jon in person but have talked to him on the phone and via PMs. I enjoyed our conversations and we talked about a get-together. Unfortunately, time ran out.
My prayers and sympathies go out for Jon, his family and friends.

Jon’s technical knowledge and clearly-written advice is part of what makes the Steel Guitar Forum great. I have referred to his commentary many times when making adjustments and assessments on my instruments. But he was more than a resource, and as someone who didn’t know him personally I feel it’s right to acknowledge that he had a life. By all accounts he was a fine musician as well as a friendly and decent human being. My condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends.

Without exception, always helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. One of the go-to folks if you have an issue. Sad to hear this, my thoughts are with his family...

Re: Jon Light
I was shocked to just learn that Jon Light had passed away. We met through out mutual (and my long time) friend, Stu Schulman. Stu passed in 2022 and Jon I corresponded a lot, as he was helping to repair and sell some of his instruments. I had not spoken to him in a while. A really fine, knowledgeable cat. Condolences to his family and friends. RIP..

Re: Brother Jon Light is gone
Oh no.
Been off the forum for a couple of weeks and this is just horrible news.
John was ALWAYS willing to give of his time and talents, mostly in exchange for the hope of learning something new about this crazy instrument we hold dear.
I am crushed by this news, and double crushed by Susan Alcorns passing.
This is indeed a very sad time for the Forum.
RIP to both of you.

It was a shock when I read Jon has passed away. Never spoke to him. But I had a lot of respect for him. He was very smart man when it came to steel guitars, He was very willing to help anyone who had a problem. Will miss his posts here on the forum. RIP Jon.

Re: Brother Jon Light is gone
We had a worthy evening at Woodstock's Colony celebrating Jon and all that he has left us with. A lot of fine music and much love in the room all night.
