How a Sound Engineer Records Steel Guitar
I have a video uploaded on my YouTube channel that I feel is perfect for this part of the forum. I interviewed the Grammy award winning recording and mix engineer Clarke Schleicher earlier this year and asked him about his experience recording steel guitar on big Nashville A-Team sessions. Schleicher has engineered sessions for Dan Dugmore, Paul Franklin, Mike Johnson, and more!

Those are good techniques and I have used/use them many times. I have recorded a bunch of steel players (including Paul and Dan) and always seem to come back to the Sennheiser 421 for steel (although a Sony tube C37a with it’s upper mid scoop can be pretty magical, too). Rule #1 is there are no rules and Rule #2 is refer to Rule #1…. Love Clark’s work! And thanks, Jacob-will check out more!

Welcome to the forum Jacob,
That was an interesting video. You asked some great questions and, of course, received great answers in return.
That's a nice video channel you've started. I wish you a lot of success with it.
