Apple Logic DAW

Post by Charles Dilworth »

I do most of my music "virtually" these days - meaning that I run electrically through Logic on my computer, rather than plugging into a real amp. Logic has a huge number of amplifier emulation models, and Im wondering if anyone has recommendations about the best ones for steel? Im finding a lot that I "kinda" like, but also wonder if I need to tweak tweak/ customize them (more reverb, etc.,etc.)
Thanks in advance.

Best luck I've had for a totally clean PEDAL steel sound, is not using an amp, but plugging straight in and using one of their vintage "tube" compressors and EQ....then adding some nice Reverb and/or Delay.

Here's a film scoring piece I did that way:

I don't have any distorted lap steel files, but the tweed amps, tweaked, seemed to work well.

Beautiful sound,Jim. No amp. Amazing, I have to look into this.

To warm up the sound (more analogue-ish) I will often add the tape saturation plug in (under Delay) in the last effects spot.

sometimes i'll mic an amp and other times i'll run straight in and then mess with it in logic if i feel it needs it. i'll also pick and choose some of the plugin amps and tweak until i like it. as with everything, it is all subjective.

Jim - yes the sound is great! You mention a Tube Compressor, but all I see in Logic is their stock Compressor and Multipressor. Did you create one? Thanks

Charles,

Thanks!

These are the 3 plug-ins (all stock) and settings I used.

Not sure why I thought it was a tube comp.......maybe that was the preset? Can't remember.

Anyway, give it a shot and see what you think.

Just ran across this and was wondering if you have a photo of these 3 plugins you use?
Thanks!
