Useful Harmony Lesson on Strings 4 and 5 + Practice Etude!

Post by Jeff Rady »

Hello Steelers,

I've been teaching a lot of beginners and I'm trying to come up with ways in which practicing scales are fun for students. To me that usually means ideas, licks, or phrases that you can use within the scale framework. So, I've come up with a lesson on how to harmonize strings 4 and 5 over a G Major scale using both the A pedal and F Lever as well as how to harmonize using just the E string lower or D lever. Plus a coinciding etude with a backing track to practice some of these moves and ideas! Tab included for both.

Strings 4 and 5 give us a nuts and bolts way to create harmony and phrases while backing a singer or using common intervals over soloing or licks. Check out these lessons to learn how to use this harmony.

Jeff I am in my first couple weeks with your site and want to say thank you. You have created a very good resource with songs most folks don’t cover. I am getting lots out of your teaching! There is a never ending supply of cool licks to pick from.

I believe I will sign up for a year once my trail is over!
