PSGA Steel Guitar Show 2024, Nov,2-3 Darien CT

Post by Craig Stock »

The PSGA has confirmed our steel guitar show on November 3, 2024 at he Piedmont club in Darien Ct, just one exit down the road from the Norwalk show at the Doubletree Inn.

This will also be a tribute to Bob Maickel who was the father of the organization who passed away in 2023. The Sunday show will feature the great Redd Volkaert, Van Manakas, drummer extraordinaire Larry Eagle, along with Jeff DeMaio, Jim Cohen, Mike Neer and the Jack Stanton from the swamps of Jersey.

Invited guests are Buck Reid and Cindy Cashdollar

There will also be a PSGA fundraiser show on Saturday night at the Piedmont with Jeff DeMaio's awesome Band Gunsmoke along with Redd Volkaert and Van Manakas called, 'Shuffles, Swings and Hagg' and more. If you are coming don't miss this, it's a great show the day before.

We will also be showing footage from the vault of never been seen vintage PSGA shows.

More details will be coming soon and overnight discounted hotel rates are being coordinated and will follow soon as well.

Jeff DeMaio has worked hard on this event and we are excited to make this a great event to support the PSGA and steel in the Northeast, and celebrate the legacy of Bob Maickel who tirelessly promoted the steel guitar!
Regards, Craig

It will be fun, also we will have the Saturday night Jam in the lower floor/bar which is always fun.

On a note of surprise, I was told that the old Doubletree hotel is or was demolished to build a newer bigger one, since there is a big demand in the area for hotel space.

I always liked the Doubletree, it was nice, clean and well run from my experience. I saw many great shows over the last 20-25 years there.

On a bright note , the Piermont Club where the show has been recently is a really nice place, and I hope everyone comes out to see a great show!

Yes John, it’s going to be fun, will be good to see everyone!

I just want to emphasize the Saturday night show at the Piedmont that has Jeff DeMaio and Gunsmoke with Redd Volkaert. They play tons of Haggard tunes and it is always a blast.

So if you are coming for the main show on Sunday, everyone should try and attend the Jam on Saturday night at 8. You won’t be disappointed!

Just a reminder to try and make it to Darien Connecticut this Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday night will be a great Tribute to Merle Haggard with Gunsmoke and Redd Volkaert, As many of youn know, Redd played for Merle and is one of the best Tele guitar players around! Jeff DeMaio is one of the most tasty players on the Notheast, and I'm not kidding, Jeff is humble, but he's one of my favorite players.

Saturday night jams have been great the past few years and will continue this year. Past guests have been Buck Reid, Robby Turner, Lucky Oceans, Jim Pitman, just to name a few!

Sunday will see Redd , Cindy Cashdollar, the great Jim Cohen, Jack Stanton one of my faves as well, John DeMaille, Tom Reilly A long time member of the PSGA and true warrior of the steel guitar.

And then Mike Neer will be here too, Mike is amazing and is such a great guy it's worth the trip just to see him and meet him.

And then also again Jeff DeMaio and his brother Nick with play , with their great band Gunsmoke, which includes many family members. Their dad Nick Sr.
Was a fixture at all the shows past, I miss him dearly, such a great singer and man and his family carries on his legacy to this day.

The best backing band in the Northeast with be there, consisting of Van Manakas, Larry Eagle and Sean Cronin.

Also a tribute to our leader Bob Maickel ! We miss you Bob!

How to see Y'all there!
So get your donkey down to Darien this weekend!
Regards, Craig

Great pictures, I have a bunch to post as well

What a great weekend! Was so good to see so many friends and meet many new ones too. The players were all top notch and the backing band second to none.

Thanks to all who made the trek to the show, it’s much appreciated, Saturday night's show with Jeff DeMaio and Gunsmoke along with Redd Volkaert and Van Manakas was great.

Cindy and Redd was great on Sunday as well, we are lucky to have so many top notch local players as well , they are all listed on the poster posted before in the thread. A shout out goes to John DeMaille and Darlene, hope you are doing well.

Jeff D had a great Wood Fired pizza truck at the show and was really good. The Piedmont Club is a great venue and has worked out well as our new home.

Please make the effort to attend future shows, they are very worthwhile to attend,

Keep Steelin’

PSGA Show pictures?

I've been to many of the PSGA shows over the years but did not make it this year. Craig, and any others who have some, I'd really enjoy seeing your pictures. Thanks for posting them when you are able.

Yes Larry, it was really fun and we had a good crowd Sunday, it's a hard show to keep going but Jeff DeMaio and the DeMaio family do all the work to keep the wheels on the rails. We had some new friends show up and a lot of the regulars.

Sorry my pictures were so late, for some reason my photos from my phone aren't getting to my pc and was having trouble loading them from my phone, but they finally went through.

I have some decent videos but don't have a YouTube account. I can send them to someone that can post them, but that's above my pay grade with technology 😀
