Quincy Jones has passed.

Quincy Jones has died at 91 years old. He had a hand and His ears in so many great recordings for as long as I have been a music student, Musician. A real Class Act!!

Currently reading Steve Fishell's book on Buddy Emmons and it mentions Quincy Jones was originally slated to produce Steel Guitar Jazz but a scheduling conflict prevented it from coming to pass. That's a top music what if for me now.

I've been reading and watching so many remembrances of Quincy and what a natural talent he had as a performer/writer/arranger but also as a producer. they say he really brought out the best in those he worked with, helping them find depths and possibilities they didn't know they possessed.

we can only imagine how differently Buddy's experience in NYC recording Steel Guitar Jazz might have been if Quincy had been in the producer's chair as originally planned. it always seemed like an injustice to me, I think Buddy and Quincy would've gotten along great. it really might have altered Buddy's career path if he'd been nurtured and encouraged and left the session with a positive feeling rather than the dejection he felt.

just a small "what if" in the careers of two absolute legends, but one I think about often.
