Lars Albrecht, Austin guitarist
Well known and loved Austin TX guitarist Lars Albrecht has passed away. The cause of his demise is his long-fought battle with brain cancer.
A native of Norway, Lars was a long-time Texas resident and was a mainstay of many Central Texas bands. He and I were colleagues on many occasions, spanning decades, with Gary P. Nunn's band, the Sons of the Bunkhouse. And many others.
I hope that more than a few Texan members of the SGF had the pleasure of working with Lars. He understood how a steel guitarist and a lead guitarist can complement each other and be greater than the sum of their parts.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

Herb Thanks for the News about Lars!
Herb:
I have been a GPN fan since “London Homesick Blues was a Baby! I met Lars years ago with the Bunkhouse Band at many gigs. He was a keeper for sure and a fine Gentleman. Really could play (top shelf )as all of GPN’s band members could.

Lars was put to rest yesterday in his hometown Moss. It was a sad and respectful funeral with lots of friends participating.
Having played in a norwegian backing band with Lars for 20+ years I have a lot of great memories. Lars brought a lot of great Texas-artists over to Norway to play the festivals in summer time. To many to mention - great learning experience for us honky-tonk vikings.
