The Humbler - Danny Gatton documentary

Post by Phillip Hermans »

I didn't see posts about this when I searched, so I'm sharing here. I figured y'all would appreciate this film.

They have done a screening in LA and there is one coming up in Maryland.
Maybe somebody can make it and tell us how it is, apparently there is lots of interviews and "new" archival footage.

BIG Danny Gatton fan here. Here's a vid of Danny and Robert Gordon. Great Buddy Holly stylings.

Haha, I had never seen that before, and on SCTV no less! What a gem. I was waiting for Danny to break into a gallop and melt everyones faces, but he held back like a consumate professional.

The Maryland showing had already sold out. Not surprising. Got on the email list though, in hopes that they'll have another in the area. I'm sure lots of guitar players in the DC region would want to see this. Thanks for the heads up.

I read an article about the project some years ago in the Washington Post (Gatton was a DC guy, of course), which included information for ordering. Needless to say, the DVD is excellent. It's been a few years since I've watched it, but if I remember correctly, there's a small amount of footage of the Redneck Jazz Explosion, featuring Mr. Buddy Emmons. If you're a Danny Gatton fan (who isn't?), it's well worth viewing.

Interesting, is the dvd that you have titled "The Humbler"? I didn't think they had printed DVDs yet, this stream is supposed to be a fundraiser for that.

I'm curious if there is another video that I should add to my collection! :-D

Another film (and DVD) that is largely about Danny Gatton (and Roy Buchanan) came out a few years ago called "Anacostia Delta".

Here's the Washington Post article about that film, that Jack may be referring to:
